Integrated Access Solutions

Telecommunications access networks are evolving from a multitude of overlaid networks optimized to carry a specific service (e.g., telephone service, broadcast video service, high-speed data service) to an integrated broadband packet access network capable of efficiently delivering any number of services. The success of new access networks is dependent, in part, on the development of standards-based access technologies with a high level of interoperability, allowing service providers increased procurement flexibilities in lowering overall costs. Not only must the emerging access networks be "open", standards-based networks, they also must offer a high degree of interoperability with embedded network infrastructure (Digital Loop Carrier Systems, Class 5 switching systems, operations support systems) and customer equipment (e.g., ordinary analog telephone sets).

Telcordia offers a number of Access technology product testing services related to both converged (packet-based) and traditional (TDM-based) networks. These include broadband fiber access (e.g., FTTP), hybrid fiber/copper access (including xDSL), and DLC (broadband and narrowband). Testing at network and customer service interfaces is performed, including voice frequency interfaces (for network elements, CPE, and subsystems), IDLC Class 5 switch interfaces, softswitch interfaces, and broadband access line interfaces. Testing is performed to Telcordia generic requirements GR-303, GR-909, GR-57, GR-8, GR-3109 and GR-3110, was well as other industry specifications.
