Telcordia plans to begin an update of GR-485-CORE, COMMON LANGUAGE® Equipment Codes (CLEITM Codes) - Generic Requirements for Processes and Guidelines, in February 2009, for anticipated completion by the end of 3rd Quarter 2009. A face-to-face meeting will be held in Piscataway, NJ, on Monday, April 27 and Tuesday, April 28, 2009. GR-485-CORE outlines the process by which manufacturers and/or suppliers of telecommunications equipment used by network providers may obtain COMMON LANGUAGE Coding Services. Included in the Coding Services is the development and maintenance of CLEI Codes, Continuing Property Record (CPR) numbers, equipment label data, and attribute information. CLEI Codes are an integral part of the equipment procurement process typically used by many Public Network Operators and Service Providers. These Codes and associated data support planning; circuit design/ provisioning; investment/inventory tracking management; maintenance, logistics, and ordering of equipment; as well as other services that are needed to maintain the telecommunications network. In addition, GR-485-CORE provides the industry's view of engineering guidelines for labeling CLEI Codes on products, and their containers. The purpose of the proposed reissue of GR-485-CORE is to:
- Update Section 2 and 3 to clarify scope of Equipment Coding for industry use
- Clarify content within the GR in support of various requirements Update various references (e.g., standard bodies, reference docs, contact information)
- Clarify Section 4 for required engineering features/attributes for proper equipment reflection
- Re-assess needs and use of various enhanced attribute information (e.g., MSDS data)
- Consider alternative references for submitting Environmental attributes (e.g., GR-63 Compliance).
Pursuant to provisions of the Telecommunication Act of 1996, related to the development of industry-wide generic requirements, Telcordia invites all interested parties to participate in this GR project. If your company is interested in participating in this activity, please contact Telcordia. The resulting document will only be available through the purchase of an Enterprise License. Such a license is included in the participation fee for this GR project.
