More and more fiber network elements are being deployed in the outside plant. In order to support new services and delivery platforms such as Very High Speed DSL (VDSL) and other technologies in the outside plant, new protection technologies are being developed and they include different, smaller form factors from the traditional five-pin protector. This proposed new requirements document is intended to define new requirements specifically for these devices and select or modify existing requirements contained in the following documents:

  • GR-974, Generic Requirements for Telecommunication Line Protector Units (Issue 3, June 2002)
  • GR-1361, Generic Requirements for Gas Tube Protector Units (Issue 2, September 1998)
  • TR-NWT-001195, Generic Requirements for Insulation Displacement Connector (IDC) Cross-Connect Terminal Blocks (Issue 1, June 1992)
  • TR-NWT-000975, Generic Requirements for Unprotected Terminal Blocks (Issue 1, May 1991).

Pursuant to provisions of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, related to the development of industry-wide generic requirements, Telcordia invites all interested parties to participate in this GR project. If your company is interested in participating in this activity, please contact Telcordia. The resulting document will only be available through the purchase of an Enterprise License. Such a license is included in the participation fee for this GR project.

To proceed with this project, it is expected that Telcordia will need a minimum of four industry participants. While the project can proceed with fewer participants, deliverables may change as a result. The participating industry members will be apprised regularly of project status and any changes in deliverables.
