Network Element Information Request (NEIR) Consultation and Preparation

It is no surprise that network element suppliers remain extremely interested in the Regional Bell Operating Company (RBOC) market. A win in this market can lead to hundreds of millions of dollars in equipment sales. However, given the size and complexity of the RBOC networks, suppliers need network management support before they can market their innovations to the RBOCs.

Since many of the systems that support RBOC operations are made by Telcordia Technologies, a supplier specifically needs support in Telcordia Operations Support Systems (OSSs) in order to target an RBOC customer. Where Does an NEP Start?

An important first step in the Telcordia® OSMINE process for the supplier is responding to the Network Element Information Request (NEIR). This document allows for the efficient transfer of high-level product information from the supplier to Telcordia, and must be completed before the next critical steps of the process can begin (e.g., the high-level Statement of Work (SOW) meeting, development of the high-level scope and estimate, etc.)

To some suppliers, completing the NEIR is a significant challenge due to:

  • Limited time and staff
  • Limited understanding of the questions and desired responses
  • Limited knowledge of Telcordia OSSs

Completing the NEIR thoroughly and in a timely fashion is critical in order to avoid delays in the OSMINE process and, potentially, the OSS support delivery date, which could hamper the supplier’s ability to reach the RBOC market.
