SRF Partners Program Overview

The Telcordia Granite Inventory SRF Partners Program is designed to facilitate data loading and reconciliation for Granite's worldwide customer base. Through cooperation between Granite and its SRF partners, compatibility is enhanced between Inventory and external sources of network data such as discovery systems, mediation systems, and element management systems.

What is SRF?

SRF (or "surf") is short for Service Resource Format. The SRF specification is the XML Data Type Definition (DTD) that describes the object model used for data transfer to the XML Gateway module. XML that conforms to the SRF XML DTD will be accepted as valid by XML Gateway for upload into, or for reconciliation with, the Core System Database.

"SRF-E" is the subset of the SRF specification relating to equipment data. The SRF-E specification is used by participants in the SRF Partners Program. While the full SRF specification covers all database objects supported by XML Gateway, the SRF-E specification focuses on equipment attributes. Sample attributes of the SRF-E specification for equipment include: equipment name, status, vendor, model, software revision, dimensions, in-service date, decommission date, etc.

Who Should Join the SRF Partners Program?

Any company that offers products with network data collection capabilities is a good fit for the SRF Partners Program. SRF Partners can assure their current and potential customers that their products support the SRF-E specification and are thereby compatible with the Core System database equipment model. Granite will inform current and potential Inventory customers regarding which companies have joined the SRF Partners Program and have therefore pledged to support the SRF-E specification.

About the XML Gateway Module

XML Gateway is the component of the Core System that manages data validation and upload from external sources into the Core System Database. XML Gateway also reconciles data from external sources with data in the Core System Database. Any data that are provided to XML Gateway in the SRF format will be compatible with the Core System database. To enforce data modeling conventions, templates and rules may be used with XML Gateway to ensure uniformity across multiple data sources.
