Press Release:
Telcordia Welcomes BroadSoft to Service Interconnection Community
New member joins Telcordia-led program delivering on promise of converged services
PISCATAWAY, NJ - October 30, 2007 - Recognizing the challenge of IP service interconnection for converged services, BroadSoft, Inc., a leading provider of VoIP application software, is the latest company to join the Telcordia Service Interconnection Community. Founded in March 2007, this initiative accelerates the adoption of VoIP and IMS-based services via IP interconnection and reduces the associated integration costs by helping to ensure that network elements and operations support systems (OSSs) interoperate with the Telcordia® Service Interconnection Registry.
Currently, most businesses' phone calls are routed through the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). VoIP and IMS-enabled communications that originate on an IP network have to be routed via the PSTN. This means that these service providers will not achieve the benefits of end-to-end IP services. The Telcordia Service Interconnection Registry is a trusted, centrally managed, carrier-grade registry that enables inter-carrier routing and rating for both TDM- and IP-enabled services. IP Service Interconnection allows carriers to interconnect via IP to deliver VoIP, IMS and other converged services, while enabling carriers to migrate seamlessly from PSTN to IP.
"As a market-leading provider of technology that enables our customers' core network capabilities, BroadSoft is pleased to be a member of the Telcordia Service Interconnection Community of leading-edge technology vendors," said Geoffrey K. Hicks, vice president of Global Operations for BroadSoft. "We view this as an opportunity for BroadSoft customers to leverage the Telcordia solution as a cost-effective means for interconnection and service interoperability."
Membership in the Telcordia Service Interconnection Community, which requires passing defined interoperability test cases, supports all stages of an IP service's life cycle, from infrastructure building to operations. The result is a community of suppliers whose network elements and OSSs interoperate with the Telcordia Service Interconnection Registry. By successfully completing the Telcordia interoperability tests, a requirement for membership in the Service Interconnection Community, Broadsoft joins Acme Packet, NetNumber, NexTone and Nominum, the community's first members.
"Telcordia created the Service Interconnection Community to help service providers worldwide overcome one of the biggest challenges they face when transforming their businesses to an IP-centric architecture: interoperability among service elements," said Gary Richenaker, chief architect of Interconnection Solutions for Telcordia. "The addition of BroadSoft to this member-led initiative shows the value that the industry sees in giving service providers a convenient, cost-effective resource for verifying IP service interconnection and product interoperability."
For service providers, this interoperability reduces the cost, risk and time-to-market for deploying IP service interconnection for converged services, enabling them to deliver converged services not available through PSTN interconnection. For vendors, membership validates that their products can be rapidly deployed and integrated with the Telcordia Service Interconnection Registry to enable all IP interconnection.
This award-winning proven solution helps give service providers a competitive edge by reducing their interconnection costs, optimizing their business processes and improving operational margins, while enabling end-to-end services delivery via IP.
