Press Release:
FCC Issues Public Notice on Telcordia Petition
WASHINGTON - July 23, 2007 - The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) today asked for public comment on a petition by Telcordia Technologies, Inc. to re-open the market for number portability administrative services to competition.
When number portability was first introduced, the FCC intended for administrative services to be handled by two or more providers. In making the initial request to the FCC on June 13, 2007, Telcordia asked the FCC to re-establish competition into the number portability transaction business to reduce costs, bring other efficiencies to the industry, and to permit additional third-party vendors to compete to offer these services.
"We are pleased that the FCC is moving quickly to get comment on our petition to re-open the market for the administration of number portability. We believe competition will ultimately benefit consumers and service providers alike, as Congress and the Commission initially intended," said Richard Jacowleff, President, Interconnection Solutions, Telcordia. "We are particularly gratified to see that the comment cycle will be completed by September 21, 2007."
