Telcordia and Oi Present Innovative Telecommunications Services

Partnership between US company and mobile telephony operator allows implementation of converged and innovative voice and data services

Piscataway, N.J. - November 14, 2006 - Telcordia Technologies (www.telcordia.com) announces a partnership with Oi, Brazil's leading 100% GSM operator, with more than 12 million customers, with a view to developing several advanced voice and data services, all based on the Telcordia™ Converged Application Server. The project also leverages the Telcordia Service Creation team, which has an extensive track record in telecommunications solutions implemented by Oi in order to capitalize on new market opportunities.

Some of Telemar/Oi's new services include:

  • Oi Preferred Number - Oi subscribers can choose a landline number, or Oi number from the same area as the subscriber making the call and receive a reduced fee for calls to that number.
  • Oi Multiple Pockets - A service that allows subscribers to separate offers with bonus credits for SMS or local voice calls.
  • Oi Control - An Oi plan that enables customers to buy a pre-determined amount of credit; after it runs out, the customer can activate further credits as if they were an Oi Total Card customer.
  • Oi Special Credit - Allows prepaid Oi customers an emergency credit of R$3 when their prepaid account balance runs out. This service is activated by sending a free text message containing the word "Oi" to 3333; the credit is automatically repaid the next time the account is recharged.
  • Oi Total Card - A coordinated service exclusive to Oi customers that allows credits to be used on mobile phones, landlines and public telephones, resulting in cheaper call charges.

Telcordia has worked closely with Oi since June 2002, when it was created. Oi has continuously expanded its use of Telcordia solutions and services during its relationship, including contracting Telcordia to provide local support such as maintenance and consulting services.

Just recently, Telcordia announced Telemar's selection of the Telcordia Fulfillment Suite, an end-to-end service fulfillment solution for the corporate and retail markets, allowing a continuous improvement of its order management and provisioning processes.

"Brazil is one of Latin America's most dynamic telecom markets and also one of the most competitive," said Dan Mikesell, Vice President, Latin America, Telcordia. "Together Oi and Telcordia are bringing advanced services to Brazil and in the process are raising the bar and redefining how people communicate in the region."

The Telcordia Converged Application Server has revolutionized the way service providers deliver intelligent network services, including prepaid wireless. Deployed worldwide, the Converged Application Server handles tasks such as managing service creation, validation, interoperability, configuration, Web-based service provisioning and management and fault detection and error recovery. The Converged Application Server gives operators the flexibility and advanced capabilities necessary to develop and deploy unique, revenue-generating services such as mobile games, account-sharing capabilities and promotions such as two-for-one ring tone downloads and holiday calling offers.

The Telcordia Service Creation Team, part of Telcordia Global Services, enables service providers to efficiently transform networks and deliver solutions within aggressive timeframes. This helps service providers reduce time-to-market, thus providing a competitive advantage.
