Press Release:

Telcordia to Provide Advanced Networking and Network Management Solutions for the Department of Defense Transformational Satellite Communications Mission Operations System

Piscataway, NJ - April 18 2006 - In a move that reflects the company's leadership in providing secure, mission-critical communications, Telcordia Technologies, Inc., will provide advanced networking and network management solutions for the U.S. Department of Defense's (DoD) 10-year, $2 billion Transformational Satellite Communications (TSAT) Mission Operations System (TMOS) program. The total project was awarded to Lockheed Martin, of which Telcordia is part of the team. Telcordia's involvement in the subcontract is approximately $130 million over 10 years, with the additional inclusion of Telcordia's products in the team's solutions.

TMOS is the network and operations management system for the TSAT, which will deliver advanced, highly secure IP and circuit-based services for military operations. TSAT will provide the DoD with its own private, worldwide network for voice, video and broadband data and serving as a major backbone network in the Global Information Grid.

Telcordia will serve as a Tier-1 subcontractor to Lockheed Martin Corp. Telcordia will assist in the design of the TSAT network architecture and system engineering, and serve a leading role in providing the network and policy-based management solution for TMOS. In particular, Telcordia will play a significant role in software development (TMOS will rely heavily on high-reliability, high-availability software), systems integration and testing. Several of Telcordia's world-class products are also part of the implementation of TMOS, including:

  • Granite Inventory and Granite Discovery/Reconciliation are a powerful suite of tools used to track every asset in a network, from major nodes down to individual circuit boards.
  • Service Director, which monitors disparate network resources to ensure optimum quality of service, regardless of the number of technologies and products from different vendors.

"The TSAT will be a critical link for military operations worldwide, requiring best-of-the-best technology and know-how," said Adam Drobot, President and CTO, Advanced Technology Solutions, Telcordia. "Designing and building this complex, next-generation network is a rare opportunity that few companies can live up to. The contract acknowledges Telcordia's decades of experience as a trusted advisor to federal and state agencies, as well as an architect of secure, reliable public and private telecom networks worldwide."
