Piscataway, NJ - Feb 28, 2006 - Telcordia today announced that it was awarded the 2006 "Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation" for contributions to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) interoperability product development and innovation with the advent of Telcordia® VoIP Routing Registry. This award underscores Telcordia's commitment and advances in IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and VoIP technology, and further positions the company as a leading innovator in IP communications. The award is presented annually to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new technology and product development above others within their respective industries.

The Telcordia VoIP Routing Registry facilitates inter-carrier VoIP calling, a feature that's increasingly motivating consumer adoption of IP-based communication services. The Telcordia VoIP Routing Registry brings the telecommunications industry one step closer to realizing true IP telephony services by facilitating inter-carrier VoIP calling. Today, VoIP is not exclusively Internet-based, which makes it necessary to route IP phone calls via the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) for delivery, resulting in higher costs for VoIP operators.

The Telcordia solution provides a means to centrally manage IP routing data, allowing VoIP calls to be efficiently routed over an IP network. This breakthrough provides carriers with an opportunity to dramatically improve call quality and reduce operational costs, while directly increasing profitability.

A provisional patent has been filed by Telcordia and the product is currently in trials at Tier 1 carriers and cable operators.
