Timely, Accurate Routing Data Improves Mobile Messaging Profits
Mobile messaging is a strong and growing trend; about 3.5 trillion messages will have been sent worldwide in 2009 alone. However, it is falling far short of its potential because of forces that are complicating interconnection. The results are: numerous undelivered messages, depressed per message revenues, and hundreds of millions of dollars in added interconnection fees. This paper focuses on one of those forces, mobile number portability, to explain the impacts on interconnection, and argues that a centralized, authoritative address registry is the key to overcoming interconnection challenges and increasing profits for mobile message aggregators, mobile operators, and content providers.
