White Paper:
Fiber-To-The-Premises (FTTP)
Supplier Opportunities of this Magnitude Do Not Come Along Often
The challenges for the RBOCs in deploying FTTP technology are legion - an estimated total investment of $45 billion to $50 billion, connecting more than 30 million customers (50 million voice lines), and overcoming entrenched investor skepticism, for starters.
However, even the biggest detractors admit that the buzz over FTTP has gotten loud, and RBOC progress toward FTTP deployment is now measurable and undeniable. FTTP is happening; it is the future; and, as industry developments go, this is big.
Equipment suppliers take note. The RBOCs have agreed on technical specifications and are casting for proposals. This paper examines the pivotal role that suppliers will play in enabling this infrastructure revolution. The stakes, however, are high. The spoils will go only to those suppliers who can certify the quality, interoperability, performance, and features of their products. And certification depends on having products that pass the right tests administered by the right organizations.
