White Paper:
Telcordia® Converged Application Server

Network applications have evolved from the traditional "intelligent network" services (number translation, virtual private networks, call routing, etc.) to converged applications that must bridge technologies, integrate multimedia and "rich calls" and provide many additional revenue-generating services.

At the same time costs must be reduced, time-to-market is critical, and integration is required with IT and other systems, but all this must be achieved without sacrificing core network attributes such as reliability, performance, operability and, most importantly, flexibility.

What is needed is a converged application server that is designed to bring together circuit and packet technologies (such as INAP, CAMEL and SIP) with open interfaces and powerful integration capabilities, along with Java-based service creation. All this must be provided on a platform that offers high performance and reliability with flexibility of deployment and the operational features to be part of a carrier-grade environment.

This document provides an introduction to the capabilities of a converged application server and describes the components and pre-built services that make up this solution.
