Frequently Asked Questions

What is a M/W/DVBE?
An M/W/DVBE is a business that is 51% owned, operated and controlled by a minority, woman or service disabled veteran. Owners of M/W/DVBEs must be U.S. citizens. African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Asian-Pacific Americans and Asian-Indian Americans are considered to be minorities.

Are set-asides and give-aways a part of the Telcordia Technologies Supplier Diversity Program?
No. Our program is in place to provide equal contractual opportunity to historically underutilized but qualified suppliers, and leverage such opportunity to create a strategic sourcing advantage. To this end, Telcordia includes M/W/DVBEs in as many competitive bids as possible.

How do I decide which agency to contact to become certified as a minority, woman or service disabled veteran business enterprise (M/W/DVBE)?
Telcordia accepts certifications from all of the agencies listed in M/W/DVBE Certifications; however, we do encourage certain certifications. If you are a woman owned business we recommend that you contact WBENC. We encourage minority owned businesses to apply for NMSDC certification. If you are a minority owned business and expect to do work for government agencies (either directly or through another supplier), we recommend that the SBA also certify you.
